Job Description

Factory Motor Parts (FMP) is a one of the largest distributors of OEM and aftermarket auto parts in the United States with an expanding international presence.  Privately-held for 70+ years, FMP is aggressively growing though its warehouse locations across the United States.  FMP also produces and distributes its own line of parts under the FVP brand, as well as washer fluid and related products under the Splash brand of products. 

The General Ledger Accounting Manager is responsible for leading a team which performs accounting for a fast-paced global organization.  This involves planning and maintaining a large, complex financial accounting system with strong internal controls.  The ability to utilize multiple systems and workflows across a number of functional areas, while developing relationships across the organization is key.  Developing automation and designing systems that scale as we grow is a significant component of future success.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Accounting Manager responsibilities may include, and are not limited to the following:

  • Manage the preparation and perform the initial reviews of monthly internal financials.  Ensure the accuracy and sufficiency of revenue recognition, accrual validation, account reconciliations and Gross Profit modeling. 
  • Perform research and support on non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Ensure accuracy and efficiency in the closing and revenue recognition processes.  Implement continuous improvement to the processes related to accounting, reconciliations and analysis.  Challenge current processes and practices to drive greater accuracy and efficiency.
  • Analyze operating results and determine drivers of the business results. Communicate those results effectively with senior corporate management and field operations.
  • Work closely with outside auditors to help validate our financial results.
  • Support the annual budget process lead by our FP&A team.
  • Support other Finance process improvement initiatives, through system enhancements, process changes which will improve scalability of Finance as the company grows.
  • Support, mentor and train the General Ledger team members.  Foster a collaborative, open environment for team members to learn and grow.  Give support to the Controller and CFO as necessary.

Job Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with various complex automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
  • Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis.
  • Detail oriented, organized, proven ability to manage multiple analysis projects.
  • Ability to succeed in fast-paced, dynamic workplace.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.  Access skills a plus.
  • Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated management skills, with the ability to motivate and manage teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • CPA Licensed, can be inactive.
  • 10+ years of total professional experience with 4+ years of public accounting and 5+ years of progressive supervisory management experience outside of public accounting.
