Job Description

The Director of Battery Operations will support the goals of the Battery Channel by working across a matrixed environment to recommend appropriate strategies and alternatives to ensure operational efficiency and profitability.

This is a highly collaborative role which will leverage superior skills and effectiveness at managing relationships across the different business segments and functional areas within the company. This position offers an excellent opportunity for growth and creativity.

JOB SUMMARY:

In addition to managing operational delivery of the battery channel products and services, the Director of Battery Operations will also play a critical role in selecting, contracting, and implementing differentiating capabilities, technologies, and service offerings that will enhance the experience of Factory Motor Parts customers.

  • Key Strategic Focus: Ensure all battery operations are efficient and effective through all channels.
  • Key Tactical Focus: Ensure day to day operations are achieved while simultaneously exceeding current and future goals.
  • Battery Channel Contribution Responsibility:  Ensure battery operations are sufficient to meet revenue and contribution objectives.
  • Span of Control/Direct Reports: This position develops operational strategies and works with and influences the regional battery sales managers and regional sales and operations leaders to grow the channel. This position is projected to have between 4-5 direct reports.  All other positions are indirect and report through a matrixed organization.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directing and coordinating all operations activities to develop and implement long range goals and objectives to meet business and profitability growth objectives. This entails both existing and new battery programs and initiatives. 
  • Meet data analysis and reporting requirements necessary for efficient operations.
  • Lead the development of training for Battery Marketers on the FMP Battery operational process.
  • Design, develop, and recommend tools and strategies to overcome operational obstacles (anticipated or existing).
  • Operational projects may include but are not limited to overseeing the proprietary battery PDA system that needs to be updated and improve efficiencies and effectiveness. This includes insuring the battery truck routes and all battery delivery methods are maximized for profitability.
  • Monitor and manage FMP’s battery core and salvage lead strategy while anticipating changes in the marketplace.
  • Ensure that Customer Service and General Managers are trained on the Battery value proposition and informed of all tactical product promotions and operational objectives.
  • Effectively manage the profitability of the Battery Marketer Truck Program with emphasis on maximization of supplier programs, safety, efficiency of Battery Marketer delivery and operational processes.
  • Process contract closings and price negotiations.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.A. in Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
  • Master of Business Administration preferred.
  • Experience with data analytics with the ability to use Excel, word and PowerPoint to develop and present compelling business recommendations.
  • Able to analyze a P&L statement and build/develop pro forma P&Ls for estimating the value of new business deals/programs.
  • Previous supply chain experience.
  • Strong project and organizational skills.
  • Possess Six Sigma certification (Green and/or Black Belt) or Lean Six Sigma
  • Experience with various types of warehousing and or distribution methods to support expansion/growth.
  • Ideally possess at least 10 years of progressive sales experience preferably in battery sales along with at least 5 years of experience as a manager.
  • Proven sales results as well as the ability to effectively develop, lead, and train a successful, driven, goal oriented sales team in a matrix environment.
  • Experience in the automotive and/ or battery marketing fields.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
