Job Description


The Import & Export Transportation Specialist will be responsible for personally coordinating the efficient transport of International loads. Additionally, this individual will provide logistics, technical, and tactical management by analyzing and developing logistics plans, and maintaining technical documentation


  • Maintains effective track & trace process with in-transit shipments to ensure load dates are not missed.
  • Responsible for negotiating and selecting customs brokers, freight forwarders, ocean and air carriers.
  • Prepares all necessary shipping documentation related to international bookings and process all import/export documentation to clearing agents to include: (Manifest, Shipping Instructions, Haz Cargo Decl., Bill of Ladings, and Certificate of Origin, etc.)
  • Computes duties, distribution procedure, allocation of items, tariffs, price conversions, weight, and a volume of merchandise exported/ imported to/from foreign destinations.
  • Maintains internal controls program to ensure compliance with regulations regarding shipment, receipt, and documentation of imported/exported products.
  • Responsible for coordinating inbound and outbound transportation and shipping processes efficiently and cost effectively.
  • Manages all aspects of freight scheduling for, (LTL, TL, Rail and Ocean) dispatching, delivery, and optimizes freight movements.
  • Develops, administers & maintains shipping/transportation policies that will produce on-time delivery, optimum customer service and cost effective utilization of the carrier base.
  • Responsible for approving carrier selection process and negotiating terms while maintaining vendor relationships.
  • Coordinates and maintains technical documentation with vendors.
  • Creates and reviews procedures to maximize customer satisfaction and minimize cost.
  • Monitors and reports on activities and issues
  • Researches and obtains information on transit time, costs and service level to determine the best methods for transportation and cost reduction.
  • Collaborates with internal and external associates to improve efficiency, productivity and processes.

Job Requirements


  • Working knowledge of DOT and HAZ-MAT regulatory compliance.
  • Proficient with standard logistical elements, concepts, practices and procedures. 
  • Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Superior technical, analytical, organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Capacity to work in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment where multiple projects are concurrently being designed, managed, and executed.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to translate and adapt best business processes and practices from previous experience.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Office & Word.


  • Bachelor’s degree in transportation or related discipline.
  • 3-5 years of international transportation experience, including import/export regulations as it relates to international freight.


Work is performed in a company office building. Lifting requirements of up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis may be required. Wrist and finger manipulation due to computer work, calculating, compiling and filing. Equipment used may include but is not limited to computer, typewriter, calculator, telephone, copy and fax machines.
